sowat 2005This report summarizes the latest attempt of Social Watch to track the Philippine progress.  It has harnessed independent experts, people's organizations and nongovernment organizations, and sectoral representatives to make an honest assessment not only of the commitments under the MDG, but also those made in two key forums convened by the UN 10 years ago -- the World Summit on Social Development in Copenhagen, and the Beijing Women's Conference; as well as the Geneva 2000 World Summit on Social Development or Copenhagen+5.

Tracking Progress: Accomplishments and Shortfalls in Local Social Development

This report is part of the continuing initiative of Social Watch Philippines (SWP) to monitor the commitments made by the Philippine Government during world conferences and to measure actual progress towards the agreed goals and targets by highlighting the situation in selected local areas in the Philippines. Through this, SWP likewise intends to substantiate development trends in the country by presenting the progress and shortfalls in social development at local level. The presentations relied primarily on the monitoring activities undertaken by the Social Watch networks in designated pilot areas.

Social Watch Philippines 2001 Report
social watch 2001 coverNobody said putting a book together was easy. Perhaps what made this project a bit more difficult was that different topics were handled by different people, resulting in different writing styles, research techniques, approaches, and ways of viewing things. To paraphrase the old saying, we got different strokes by different folks. But when we started this project, we knew that we were all bound by a common thread—and a common threat. Since we were all part of a network of civil-society organizations, the common thread that bound us was the impetus to contribute to the development debate and to influence government's policy directions. But perhaps the more compelling push for us to get together at this time is the common threat facing us all today -- poverty, which is once more on the rise.
